ETANG DU GRAND PRÉ
A natural oasis surrounded by greenery
With a water surface area of more than 2 ha, a maximum depth of 4 m and an average depth of more than 3 m, the Etang du grand pré is a rare pearl in the region. Its depth allows fishing in every area of the lake except the reserve at the source of the stream.
A barrage excavated in the 1960s for gravel extraction, it has a bottom of sand and silt, crushed stone and rocks. The presence of a stream and several underground springs guarantees constant oxygen levels all year round. The quality of the water is ensured by the abundance of natural food. At no time of year are algae and weeds present.
THE SWIMS
Two safe and well-equipped areas for fishing
THE DAM
The main swim is located in front of the chalet.
It offers the possibility of fishing comfortably on the left, where the bottom slopes gently and under the trees, in the centre at greater depths or on the right along the bank with steeper edges. In this area, the water reaches a maximum depth of 4 m at the foot of the dam.
THE BAY
The second swim is in a more intimate and sheltered area, in the bay to the south of the lake. On the right there is an excellent marginal spot just below the trees, in the centre the bottom slopes gently down to 3.5 m, on the left the overhanging branches on the water offer shelter to the fish along the wilder bank.
OUR FISH
The result of careful selection
The lake is home to around 140 carp, mostly mirrors. There are several strains from five different fisheries and special exemplars including linear, fully scaled, ghost and Koi, plus three amur. No disturbance fish and catfish are present. Most of the fish are untouched.
The endemic stock of the lake is about 40 carp, a first release of 70 fish was made in 2021 by the previous owner. In addition to this great variety of fish, we released 30 carp up to 55 lbs at the beginning of 2023 after a careful selection.
We believe that the perfect natural conditions of our lake can influence the healthy and constant growth of our carp. The first results bode well for a bright future!
SPECIAL KOI
The jewels of the lake
Fascinated by the world of the most special and authentic Koi, we enter 4 very special and rare exemplars born and bred in Japan: a gold Kin Kabuto with metallic scales, a black and white Kawarigoi with peculiar chocolate spots, a black Magoi and a chocolate and orange Botan – Gin Kabuto.
Three more Koi were already present in the lake, the largest reaching over 30 lbs.
THE ENVIRONMENT
Flora and fauna are protagonistes
The lake is entirely surrounded by four hectares of vegetation and trees including oaks, pines, chestnuts, birches and alders, whitch providing tranquillity and shade for our guests.
The lush flora is the ideal habitat for various species of animals that visit the property such as deer, roe deer, wild boars, squirrels, hawks, owls and birds including woodpeckers, kingfishers and ducks.
For us the balance between the environment and man is really important. We ask all our guests to have full respect for the flora and fauna present.
NEARBY THE LAKE
A lake just a stone’s throw from the town
The Etang du Grand Pré is located in Nieul, a small village in the heart of Limousin. The centre features a medieval castle with a private lake and park. All basic services are less than 2 km away, including restaurant, pub, supermarket, laundry, bakery, tobacco shop, petrol station, bank, post office and train station.
The city of Limoges can be reached in less than 20 minutes.
The proximity to Limoges airport, only 8 km away, offers the possibility of reach us by plane. We guarantee free shuttle service and the possibility to rent fishing equipment.
